Large Paved Garden Terrace

A large triangular front garden in the West Hampstead area of London. The main brief from the client was to design a garden that utilises the front garden as a back garden whilst still maintaining the usability and formality of the front garden area.

The centrally located path creates a formal and direct access to the house whilst the two seating areas located on either side of the path incorporate 'typical features' of a back garden, a sunken paved area and a timber deck raised one step above the ground level.

The sunken paved area complete with a comfortable outdoor sofa set is perfect for relaxing whilst the timber decking terrace on the opposite side of the garden is perfect for dining. It includes a built-in timber seating with storage which combined with a large table creates a dining space for 8-10 people.'Red Tabasco' bricks that were used on the already existing boundary walls. This detail adds consistency in the material selection to the project. Other materials used in the scheme were 'riven' finish Indian Sandstone paving. The large garden design sized of the paving slabs adds a very contemporary feel the design and Balau hardwood, 145x21mm smooth decking boards.

A large paved terrace in front of the house adds formality to the schemed and also combines the two areas located on either of the house, the BBQ area and utility area with the shed.

A versatile planting scheme compliments the garden and provides an attractive planting effect that changes throughout the year. The pleached Photinia 'Red Robin' trees on the left hand side of the garden provide attractive evergreen screening from the nearby houses on the other side of the street.
