We undertook the design and build for this Fulham property's outdoor space, which featured a newly-built lane swimming pool. The scheme had to complement the interiors and finish of the house and entailed precise and exacting construction. We closely collaborated with the client on the basic design, materials used and quality assurance.
Durable and stable Ipe hardwood was chosen as the main decking surface for its heavy-duty properties, suitable for a swimming pool environment. The hardwood was, unusually, likewise used as pool coping edge, which were manufactured off-site then fitted together with the main decking. The slatted screening was also made of narrower boards of Ipe hardwood. The screening afforded privacy to the space while filtering light through the garden.
An artificial lawn provided a neat and refreshing visual contrast to the hardwood, as well as symmetry with the pool and strategically planted pockets of evergreen bamboo. In the evenings, the lighting scheme highlighted the space's textures and planting and provided illumination around the multi-level seating and dining areas. The scheme also integrated an irrigation system for maintaining the planting.
