Garden Water Features |
The introduction of water into a garden can be calming and refreshing or lively and exhilarating! One of the most stunning inherent qualities of water is its ability to reflect light!

‘Water features’ is a very simplistic way to describe a vast subject. Below we have listed a variety of categories to enable you to decide what type of water feature will best suit your garden design. From fountains to lakes, from ponds to contemporary self contained stainless steel feature. Visit our water feature site here: Garden Water Features

Large Ponds Large Ponds
The ponds pictured have all been built using heavy duty butyl liners which are ideal for informal shapes. The main area is excavated to the required shape and a shelf built around the perimeter to anchor the butyl liner down using a concrete footing. This keeps the bank of the pond area solid and soil can then be graded over the top to allow grass or water marginals to be planted. Depending on the situation, other methods can be used? Most ponds will require some form of pump and filtration system in order to circulate the water keep it clear. The addition of water marginals and water plants helps to oxygenate the pond and to balance the PH which stops the water turning green and stagnating....
Small Ponds Small Ponds
Small ponds can vary in size and take quite a large amount of planning and building. They are commonly found in suburban and city environments and built from either butyl liners or formed from concrete or brick work. The overall design can be traditional and formal or more organic and wild. Maintenance should be considered within the design scheme. You may also want aquatic planting and fish within the pond? The two pictures featured below have been built within gardens using concrete and brick work. See the diagram on construction to see in more details how the ponds were built.
Raised Ponds Raised Ponds
Raised ponds are generally built above ground level and, predominantly constructed from poured concrete or pre-cast blocks. Walls are built to the required height and finished off with a cladding of some sort ie. tiling, smooth pointed or rendered brick work. Raised ponds are generally easier to keep clean than ground level ponds. The design advantage of raised ponds is that they can be built to a height suitable to incorporate attractive and functional seating around the edge. See the images and diagrams below for further information.
Fountains & Bubble Jets Fountains & Bubble Jets
Fountains can look amazing in private gardens. Splashing water, from fountain jets, grabs attention and creates a dramatic spectacle and can help by mask surrounding noises. Fountains and bubbling jets can be included within small or large ponds or constructed raised ponds. Water can be sourced from higher level areas to power a fountain or water can be brought in to the area with a sophisticated pumping pipework. The possibilities for fountains include:• vertical water jets, single or multiple • inclined water jets, single or multiple • dancing water jets• frothing water columns • bubble fountains • dripping fountains • waterfalls • water channels & rill features • sculpture fountainsFount...

Lighting should be regarded as an integral ingredient for any water feature. Anyone who has seen a water feature operating in the evening would agree that the overall effects of water are completely transformed at night. Coloured lighting can look especially superb!
