Small Garden 22 Kensington: Declan Buckley in Kensington
Send To A Friend Contemporary rear garden in the heart of Kensington designed by Declan Buckley Of Buckley Design Associates and constructed by The Garden Builders.
The modern and uncomplicated design divides the garden into two functional levels - the lower terrace issued as an entertaining area and the upper terrace designed as a relaxation area complete with loungers and surrounded by decorative planting.
Large evergreen Magnolia trees create a dominant focal point at the end of the garden complete with tropical under-planting. Black horizontal slatted trellis provides a chic and smart backdrop for the lush green planting enhancing the tonal changes in plant foliage.
An L-shaped cantilevered bench on the lower terrace fulfils a dual function as a decorative bench, whilst also being integrated as part of the main flight of steps between the garden levels. The materials selected are beautifully balanced helping to retain a coherent feel throughout the garden. Slate paving is not only used as the main flooring material but is also used to clad many of the retaining walls. The blue/grey colour combines really well with the warm honey brown hues of the Iroko bench and side shelf.
Simple, understated LED lighting brings this small London garden alive at night ready for evening entertainment.
