Small Garden 18: Garden designed by Ben Molyneux and built by the Garden Builders.
Send To A Friend The focus of this London garden is stylish relaxation in a fresh, contemporary setting.
A neat limestone paving offers a pale, clean and light reflective surface and smart newly built rendered walls are painted to bring much needed light into this once dark and unimpressive space. Smart slatted hardwood trellis forms the perimeter of the garden. The trellis creates a very contemporary feel to the garden whilst also offering an element of privacy. Ipe hardwood deck boards form the centre of the two terrace areas bordered with the neat limestone paving. A bespoke Iroko feature bench was built complete with arm rests. A handy purpose built storage cupboard makes use of an underused corner of the garden, completed with slatted cladding and a smart powder coated steel lid. A lovely water sculpture, supplied by the garden designer, was installed amongst the planting.
This project highlights the day to day problem of landscape contractors having to overcome access issues and severely restricted working spaces. As there was no immediate access through the property due to recent renovations, we had to access the garden via a tall neighbouring wall. Access towers were installed to negotiate this obstacle and help import/export all materials and waste.
The various levels of the garden and the step areas are highlighted in the evening with imaginative LED lighting. Whilst the lush planting is gently illuminated with a variety of spike spots installed at ground level.
