This long, narrow suburban garden runs down to stunning views of The River Thames. The client wanted an Italian-style garden. We designed and built a large, terracotta paved area which was the main entertaining space, enclosed on either side with hand-made trellis, and planted jasmine to provide both fragrance and privacy for the dining area. To overcome a change in level, we built a circular step incorporated into the terrace design which looked deceptively level when viewed from above. A meandering path, built from 4 inch solid granite sett cubes, led to a small rear terrace area. As you journeyed towards the river, the garden was planted with tightly clipped box hedging and colourful Mediterranean plants such as lavender and agapanthus. The lighting scheme provided an intimate atmosphere for evening drinks overlooking the river.
